Travelling from Pescara
Pescara, a window on the Tyrrhenian Sea
Overlooking the sea with the mountains as a backdrop, renowned beaches and surroundings to discover such as the Gran Sasso, the Maiella, Penne, Sulmona or the nearby Chieti: this is
Pescara, a city with ancient origins (it is believed to be established around the 1st century BC) that has been able to evolve quickly giving life to a place full of suggestions perfectly
harmonised between its origins and contemporary innovation.
La Dannunziana
The city and the Vate are an inseparable combination, here Dannunzio was born and here you can still visit the poet's birthplace, in via Manthonè in the heart of the
old city. Having been the National Museum since 1927, this eighteenth-century building still preserves the original furnishings of that era in all the rooms, plus manuscripts and family
clothes, objects that often recur with nostalgia in Dannunzian writing.
The maritime origins
We are in the centre of the historic city, the one, unfortunately, there are very few remains because almost totally destroyed during the Second World War and yet you
will still have the feeling of living authentic and genuine atmospheres, those of a seaside village of yesteryear, made of ancient traditions and simple life but that,
at sunset, turns into a lively tangle of streets teeming with young people, music and nightlife.
Therefore, the Museum of the Sea is dedicated to the memory and city's ancient maritime traditions but also its biodiversity could not be missing. Not far away you can
admire the majestic Ponte del Mare. A pedestrian and bicycle bridge of 466 metres in length with a sinuous elevated path where you can enjoy the view of the coast and its
beautiful beaches.
Pescara's promenade is in fact among the most pleasant and enjoyable, green and lush, with ample pedestrian and bicycle spaces and a long line of restaurants and bars
where you can enjoy the local cuisine. Always facing the sea you will have to make a stop to visit the Trabocchi. They are long and charming wooden docks immersed in water, once used to
fish herds of fish that moved from one coast to the other and today used as local seafood cuisine.
It is no coincidence that the symbol of the city is "La Nave", an imposing Carrara marble fountain whose sculptor, Piero Cascella, donated to the city in 1987 to decorate
its promenade.
Piazza della Rinascita and the former Aurum
Modern Pescara winds around Piazza della Rinascita, better known as Piazza Salotto to define the place's social and communal role.
The former Aurum liquor factory was reconverted for public events, exhibitions and concerts. It is an elegant building in Art Nouveau style that currently hosts various
events.
A few steps from the latter is a place of peace and freshness: the nearby Pineta Dannunziana, a wonderful green park, rich in vegetation that offers numerous educational
visits and guided tours for young and old people.
The ZTL in Pescara
Pescara is equipped with a ZTL, Limited Traffic Zone, to promote the reduction of fine dust and encourage the use of eco-friendly mobility and public transport. Pescara's downtown, and
much of the centre, are therefore not accessible by car. Electric cars can transit for free. All the more reason to rent an electric car in our Pescara office. Always
remember to consult the Municipality's website to be aware of the latest ordinances on the subject.
