Guide to Security Deposits and Car Rental Guarantees

To rent a vehicle with Sicily by Car, a security deposit must be provided at the time of pick-up. Below you will find detailed information regarding accepted payment methods and pre-authorization procedures.

Credit Card Requirements

The primary driver named on the reservation must present a physical credit card (digital versions are not accepted) issued in their own name at the rental desk.

• Accepted Networks: International credit cards from Visa, Mastercard, and American Express.
• Exclusions: Cash deposits and checks are not accepted.

Important Note: Please ensure you have your card's PIN with you, as it may be required by the banking network to complete the transaction.

Car Rental Without a Credit Card: The "Debit Package"

If you do not have a credit card, Sicily by Car offers the possibility to rent specific vehicle categories using a debit or prepaid card.

To take advantage of this option, you must:

1. Verify that your debit card meets the requirements outlined in our Rental Information (direct https://www.google.com/search?q=link).
2. Purchase the mandatory "Debit Package", which includes the following coverage:
• Car Protection Plus (damage waiver/deductible reduction);
• Pai Plus (personal accident insurance);
• Road Assistance Plus (comprehensive roadside assistance).

Security Deposit Calculation

The total security deposit amount is equal to the rental cost (if not already prepaid online) plus a fixed amount. This amount is determined based on the vehicle category and whether you have purchased the optional Car Protection Plus or Super Gold Protection coverage, as shown in the table below.

• Rental Cost (if not already paid online).
• Fixed Deposit Amount (based on vehicle category and coverage).

Please Note: The deposit serves as a guarantee for the rental payment and any additional charges (damages, fuel shortages, etc.). Under no circumstances does the deposit represent the maximum limit of the customer's liability.

Rentals made via debit or prepaid cards require the immediate charge of the total rental cost plus the security deposit amount.

CUSTOMER’S RESPONSIBILITY IN CASE OF DAMAGES AND THEFT OF THE RENTED VEHICLE. MAXIMUM CHARGES (TLW/CDW PENALTIES)

In the event of damage to the vehicle, the customer will be responsible for the CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) penalty, up to the maximum amount determined by the rented vehicle category. The applicable amounts are listed below.

In the event of theft/fire,  the customer will be responsible for the TLW (Theft Loss Liability Waiver) penalty, up to the maximum amount determined by the rented vehicle category. The applicable amounts are listed below.

Liability and Specific Regulations

Penalties for damage, theft, and/or fire apply per single event. In accordance with Art. 1588 of the Italian Civil Code, the customer undertakes to compensate the lessor for any damage occurred to the vehicle for any reason, unless they can prove that the damage occurred due to causes not attributable to the customer. The rental agreement contains specific provisions regarding liability for vehicle use. Of particular importance is the adherence to rules for correct and diligent use (for example, avoiding unpaved roads and following standard care and maintenance practices), as well as compliance with traffic regulations. In the event of a breach of these terms, the customer will be held liable for the full cost of the damage, even if the Car Protection Plus, Pai Plus, or Super Gold Protection clauses were purchased. Please note that, in addition to cases expressly provided for, limitations of liability will not apply in cases of willful misconduct or gross negligence (as per Art. 1229 of the Italian Civil Code).
